I had a call from these beautiful girls to do a sister’s session for the youngest’s 18th birthday – the setting was to be the old mill on their grandparents’ farm… the afternoon of the shoot, I followed the girls and their mum in the car out to the property… then we hit the paddocks… and ok, I have to admit it, I did notice that my zippy little sporty car was swerving and not gripping in the muddy paddocks very well… but carried on regardless (the country girl in me was never a very dominant gene!!!)
We continued our little convoy through the paddocks till we reached a gate that opened to fields that had been ploughed earlier in the week… we decided there was a real possibility of getting bogged if we continued, so turned the cars around and headed back… they had a shearing shed and farmhouse on the other side of the property we could use instead… As we drove back up the hill, I sensed things weren’t right as my little fiesta’s wheels began spinning… and then up ahead of me, I see the girls and their mum in their car stop, reverse lights on, wheels spinning and realised: They were bogged. So silly old me STOPS my car, loses momentum up the hill in the mud and vava voom: we have two cars and four girls bogged in the middle of a paddock about 3km from civilisation, in light that was fading fast!!
After no answer on the phones, this mum swapped her gorgeous suede boots for the gumboots that the girls had brought as props for the shoot and WALKED back to the house to find a tractor (and hopefully some men!) to get us out… while myself and the girls relocated our photo shoot to – right where we were in the paddock! we got to work… giggling, dancing to ‘everybody’s shuffling’, talking about boys, blowing bubbles… As much as you don’t WANT situations like this, I think they make the experience so much fun and I feel like I got to know the girls better because of it…
I always ask my clients if there is one image they’d like from the session what would it be, and Miss S said ‘the bond between my sister and I’ – I witnessed this special bond on that crazy afternoon on the hilltop and I hope I have managed to capture it for you xxx Happy 18th birthday Miss E!
enjoy your preview and I will have your full gallery to you soon xx
