I just love to share these photos from our USA child photography workshop taken back in 2015.
I kept calling it a Boston workshop but when I arrived IN Boston, I realised that calling these stunning locations “Boston” was actually like calling picturesque Bowral “Sydney”, doh :)
For those who don’t know the back-story, I created my online course Beginner Bootcamp (which teaches you how to use your camera on manual specifically to get ah-mazing shots of your kids) at the end of 2014.
One of the founding members of Bootcamp, (Catherine), an Aussie who used to live in Boston, shared her newfound photographic skills with her Boston friend, Karyn. Karyn, joined Bootcamp and had four boys under four years old, including two year old triplets! (there is actually a video you can watch from Karyn here!). Karyn then shared Bootcamp with lots of her friends and mummy’s groups and one year later Beginner Bootcamp has gone global with 20% of students not from Australia!
Last year the girls were talking about “fall” (or autumn as we say!) coming up and I started getting jealous of the beautiful images they would be able to take with the kids.
Suddenly the idea of a photography workshop amongst the apple orchards and the pumpkin patches was born.
Then came the requests for family photoshoots, a coincidence that Caroline White was going to be in NYC that week AND one of my girlfriends of 30 years just happened to be eloping in New York at the same time.
The deal was done.
In a whirlwind trip, I flew straight into Boston, and had daily client family photoshoots, the all-day photography workshop, a train trip to New York, a Central Park shoot, a Sex and the City style all-day wedding and then finished off the trip with an interview (and lots of wine) with my gorgeous friend and photographer, Caroline White in New York. I barely had time to let the jetlag wear off before I was back on the plane and home again.
Naturally the day of our photography workshop, the weather dropped 10 degrees overnight to zero, with snow in places.
With 11 children under 4 years old and temps of around 5 degrees in the sun, and me only bringing my “New York Autumn Fashion Outfits”… suddenly my idea to meet for best light at 8am and shoot all day till best afternoon light seemed not so great…. we had to wipe icicles off the pumpkins and snot from the kids’ noses….
it was freeeeeeezing… (thanks goodness for Karyn bringing me mittens!!!)
But so so worth it, don’t you agree :)
So here are some of my favourites from the photography workshop!
Love this one, a little photographer in the making!
The owner of this pumpkin patch farm, offered to take us all on a hay bale ride with the kids, which was fun and thawed us out a little bit with the sunshine hitting our skin!
We then headed over to Applecrest Orchard, which was a picturesque place with little barns and buildings, it’s own little pumpkin patch, and apple orchards, and fruit and veggie market and lots of things for the kids to do :)
I showed the girls lots of my tips and tricks for photographing kids… it was so great to meet my “Boston contingent” of Bootcamp face-to-face! But can you believe this was the only behind the scenes photo I took? AND I forgot to get a group photo of us all??! (I ALWAYS forget to do that in live events!!)
Love this, so cute don’t you agree!
Lots of posing and composing tips in this photography workshop.
Chaos reigned… as you can imagine :)
I absolutely ADORED the apple orchards.
Love these photos? please do share the love by sharing, commenting and liking this post!
The kids were absolutely amazing, especially considering how cold it was and what a long day it was!
We finished off the day with some fun in their Halloween costumes as a treat for the kids for being such fab models for us.
There were some tired little heads in the car for the 45 min drive back to Andover :)
… They sounded like little bleating lambs as they all exhaustedly sang and talked to themselves :) Karyn is a superwoman :)
Gorgeous don’t you agree? Please do like and share if you know these guys or just love the photos!
If you want to find out more about Beginner Bootcamp, you can do that here. Twice a year, you can join the live round of Bootcamp, but you can join anytime and also work at your own pace.
